And once your yard is taken care of, make sure that there is a barrier between your lawn and the woods. Ticks get the Lyme disease from mice. So make sure that your house is mouse free. Mice tend to live close to wood piles and rock piles. Make sure that you clean up these material in your yard.
Are you going for a walk? Make sure to stay in the middle of the path. Don’t go into the bushes unprotected. If you want to go into the bushes make sure that you are protected. For example by tick repellent clothing.
Cover your skin
It also important to wear long sleeves, long pants and just to be sure: wear tick repellent socks. It is especially important to make sure that you don’t walk barefoot in the woods. This is something that causes a lot of tick bites by children.
What to do if you are bitten by a tick
Once someone is bitten by a tick, it is important to remove the tick immediately. This is best done by grasping them with a tweezer and pulling them of the skin. If the tick is removed from the skin within 24 hours, it dramatically reduces the risk of getting Lyme disease.
