Tips for preventing tick bites

A tick bite can cause serious harm for someone’s health. Aside from the fact that it is very inconvenient it can result in a serious infection. This infection is called Lyme disease. One can get infected by Lyme disease at every moment of the year, but the risk is the highest in the spring and especially in the summer. If we look at the numbers: Lyme disease is the most frequent tick-borne infection in North America. 

Protect yourself

It is important to protect yourself against ticks and tick bites. Now how do you do that? In this blog you can find some simple tips to protect yourself against ticks. You have to know that ticks are very small and they can be everywhere. So it is hard to go anywhere without the chance of being exposed to the little creature. 

Around the house

So is there nothing we can do around our houses to keep ticks far way? Of course there are some measures you can take. For example: it helps if you keep your yard well-manicured. And once your yard is taken care of, make sure that there is a barrier between your lawn and the woods. Ticks get the Lyme disease from mice. So make sure that your house is mouse free. Mice tend to live close to wood piles and rock piles. Make sure that you clean up these material in your yard.


Are you going for a walk? Make sure to stay in the middle of the path. Don’t go into the bushes unprotected. If you want to go into the bushes make sure that you are protected. For example by tick repellent clothing.

Cover your skin

It also important to wear long sleeves, long pants and just to be sure: wear tick repellent socks. It is especially important to make sure that you don’t walk barefoot in the woods. This is something that causes a lot of tick bites by children. 

What to do if you are bitten by a tick

Once someone is bitten by a tick, it is important to remove the tick immediately. This is best done by grasping them with a tweezer and pulling them of the skin. If the tick is removed from the skin within 24 hours, it dramatically reduces the risk of getting Lyme disease.
